Get Involved

Piecemakers

Piecemakers started about 10-11 years ago when I decided to get women who loved to sew and learn about quilting together and make charity quilts.  We had quite a large group but over the years it has dwindled because of age, death, or lack of interest.  We have about 8-10 women who love to sew and learn and serve the Lord at the same time.  We make baby quilts for pregnancy centers in Palmetto and Bradenton.  We make bed and throw quilts for Guardian Angels Foster Care homes, Manatee Children Services, and we make lap quilts for our nursing homes and shut ins.  Sometimes we will send quilts to the veteran’s hospital and to individuals who are Ill or needing comfort.  We start about Nov. 1 and go until mid-May. We usually have a small devotional during our three-hour visit.  Over the years, we have become very close, and we have all learned a lot about each other.  I would love to add to the group.  We do not teach how to sew but I do love to teach how to quilt. All that is required is a knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and basic sewing techniques.  We meet on Thurs. am from 9-12 in the former small dining room in Fellowship Hall. In the summer, Barbara Bordereiux runs a sewing group that makes clothes for Operation Xmas Child, Guardian Angels, and other needy areas in our community.  Anyone interested in Piecemakers can contact me at [email protected] or call me at 941-962-2709.

Breakfast and Bible Study

We meet every Saturday morning, exclusively via Zoom.  Right now we’re studying Galatians, and in mid-October we’ll be starting a series on Finding Jesus in the Old Testament.

It’s a good group for people of all levels of biblical knowledge; no particular scholarship required!

Each gathering lasts 30-40 minutes, and each series is about 6-8 weeks

Connecting to Your Ancestors with Genealogy

Getting Started with Genealogy

Whether you’ve taken a DNA Test or just wondered about your ancestors, here’s a class for you.  It’s not quite as easy as the-one hour TV shows make it, but most of the records are out there on the internet and most are free, you just need to know where to look. Phyllis Doucette has been teaching computer genealogy for over 30 years. If you are a “newbie” we’ll meet once a week for three (3) weeks to get started, then monthly to learn new skills and shortcuts. We will use RootsMagic8, a free computer/phone app to keep your family information private and organized. The app works on either PC or Mac. If you are already working on your genealogy, feel free to join us during the monthly meetings for tips and new resources. WIFI is available, so bring your laptops.

We will meet at 7-8 p.m. in the Welcome Center beginning in October.  Exact date to follow.  Please contact Phyllis Doucette at [email protected] if you are interested.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF BRADENTON CARD MINISTRY

We are a group that gathers in fellowship, writing greeting cards to our congregation and friends. We welcome anyone who would like to join us, as we share a short devotional, a cup of coffee, and great conversation. The Card Ministry meets the last Friday of each month, from 10:30 to noon in the church office conference room. Won’t you come help us as we bring joy to others?  Please contact Maggie Rieniets at [email protected]

Table Talk Groups

This ministry is a great way to gather as a family of faith, meet new friends or reunite with old friends and to fellowship through dining.  Groups meet monthly at the group’s convenience, with hosting on a rotating basis.

For questions or to sign up, please contact Helen King at [email protected]
